“Music is the best way for young children to discover foreign cultures and languages.”
So goes the philosophy behind Recremania, an ambitious partnership project involving companies or organizations from four European countries:
Online music and educational multimedia creators Tralalere and music production company PMJ are in France. Pedagogical expertise comes from Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK and from the Goethe Institute in Germany. Mobile technologies and language learning for children come from Cedetel in Spain.
According to the official website––
“Europe has a rich and creative production of children's music, ranging from traditional repertoire to contemporary artists. However, its development is limited by linguistic and regional boundaries and the absence of real European media to give access to these fragmented cultural repertories.
The goal of the Recremania project is to give opportunity to European children to discover and share their musical heritage through a European musical multilingual portal for children with innovative edutainment tools.”
The job of each of these partners is to identify and collect repertoire in their own country, in order to stock and feed a multilingual songs database. This European songs database will be available on the Recremania website, all especially designed for children. The idea is that children will be able to discover foreign languages and cultures through the songs and interactive play. Apparently there will also be children’s stories from the various countries, as well.
The website will enable parents to buy songs for their kids either by a direct paid download or by ordering a customized CD containing whatever songs they have chosen to be delivered by post. This will be the first on-line European music store totally dedicated to children’s music!
All of the Walking Oliver catalogue will be available on the new Recremania website, bringing Walking Oliver music to a whole new European audience.
Recremania is due to open for business sometime in early 2006.
We’re pleased to be a part of this new and exciting venture for kids!
