REVIEWS: Merry Fishes is loaded with holiday originals full of silly lyrics and holiday spirit, backed by the band's rootsy, jazzy music. After hearing "Santa Brought Me Clothes," what kid (or adult) couldn't identify with finding a sweater or wool socks under the Christmas tree? And more holiday blahs are featured in the self-explanatory "My Birthday Comes on Christmas" and "I Got a Cheese Log," which might possibly contain the funniest holiday sing-along chorus ever.  The sweet "You Gotta Get Up" describes the anticipation and excitement of Christmas morning, while the swingin' "Snow Day" could easily become a kids' holiday classic. The goofiest of the lot has to be "The Eleven Cats of Christmas," which describes, well, the unique characteristics and names of a bunch of cats received over the past few Christmases.  ~Warren Truett, About.com, Children's Music

REVIEWS: This album really does deliver on its title, because it's tuneful and sunny enough for children to enjoy, yet also clever enough for their parents to appreciate. The conceits behind the songs are playful and true to toddler life: the instantly recognizable subject of "Mine!," the bad-hair-day saga of "My Hair Had a Party Last Night," and the morning household chaos of "Baby's Got the Car Keys." More importantly, these are largely performed in a live setting, which allows the duo to engage in stage banter and one-upmanship, as when "18 Wheels on a Big Rig" turns into a counting contest -- in Roman numerals (!). Trout Fishing also includes a few of their "grown-up" tunes on the album; these aren't anything that children can't listen to as well, but frankly, these songs just aren't as compelling. The children's set on Family Music Party, though, is a fine addition to any parent's collection of children's music. ~Paul Collins, All Music Guide
